Marta - Veterinary Receptionist

Hi.  My name is Marta.  I was born in Michigan and moved here when I was 3, so I like to consider myself a transplant native.  After a brief time living in Arizona (very brief), I returned to live in San Diego.  I am a single parent with a wonderful son; my musically-talented nephew also lives with us. I currently have 3 dogs (Jesse, Sophie and River) as well as 2 cats (Sticker and Finnegan).  As long as I can remember, I was bringing home all the strays I could find; so I guess I was destined to work with animals.  I have been working with pets for 20+ years and it is truly what I most enjoy.  In my free time, I ride my bike at the beach, take my dogs to the park to play, socialize with friends and I recently started a cake decorating class.

Rachelle - Veterinary Technician

Hello. My name is Rachelle, but everyone calls me Rocky. I am a San Diego native and just recently got back from a 2 year stent in Saint Louis, Missouri. I have been working with animals for as long as I can remember and am currently the proud owner of an Australian Shepherd mix named “Midget” and the caretaker for six other dogs, 4 horses, and two cats. I was a fervent member of my local Olivenhain Valley 4-H club and raised pigs, lambs, and rabbits. I have been in the veterinary field for almost 8 years now and I hope someday to get my certification as a Registered Veterinary Technician.  When I am not at work, I am usually out on the trail horseback riding or at a Rodeo working with the barrel racers. Animals are my passion and they are our friends, family, and support and are often who/what we need to relax and feel the movement of the earth and life around us. Pets, to me, are a source of joy and peace. That is why I do what I can, with the gifts I have been given, to ensure that each critter that passes through my hands lives as long as it can with happiness and love from those around it. That is why I am here…to help those who cannot speak for themselves but rely on others to speak up for them.

Valentina - Veterinary Assistant

My name is Valentina.  I was born and raised in Russia in a little town outside of Moscow called Pavlovsky Posad.  By the time I was 6 years old, I was placed in an orphanage along with my brother.  About 11 months later, my brother and I were adopted by an American couple who brought us over here to the United States.  I have been living in San Diego now for 14 years.  In my spare time, if I get any, I enjoy long runs and walks on the beach with my dogs, and going out with friends and family.  I am a gymnast and try to work out as much as possible.  When I am home alone, I make jewelry for fun; its like my meditation time...just peace and quiet.  I have my Associates Degree but would like to enroll in the Veterinary Technician program at Mesa College.  I currently volunteer for several adoption groups, including the Rosebud Society and SNAP (Spay and Neuter Assistance Program).  As a volunteer, I foster/raise cats and kittens, some of which are feral, so I tame them as much as possible so that they can be placed into a home where they will be loved and cared for...It's my passion.

Katie - VeterinaryTechnician

Animals have always been an important part of my life.  I grew up in New Hampshire and started working as a veterinary assistant as a junior in high school.  I learned the necessary job skills quickly and became a technician shortly after graduating from high school.  I began working overnight shifts with our emergency doctor and our head emergency technician and found that the critical cases were the most interesting to work with.  As our hospital expanded, I also spent time working in the ICU and on the surgical team.  After spending 5 years with that hospital, I decided to move to northern California to continue with my education.  I started attending Humboldt State University and started working as a veterinary technician at a nearby veterinary clinic.  I enjoyed my time there but decided to move to San Diego to pursue a better job opportunity in 2007.  I began working in the ICU at the Veterinary Specialty Hospital learning the advanced techniques needed to work with the critical cases.  I decided that in addition to working with the critical care patients, I also wanted to continue my skills at a private veterinary practice.  I began working at the Point Loma Veterinary Clinic in September 2008.  I was promoted to a supervisor position at the Veterinary Specialty Hospital where I continue to work on weekends.  I'm currently enrolled in classes at San Diego State University pursuing a BA degree.  I have one dog, "Sammy," and two cats, "Flipper" and "Penny."  My dog is a wire-haired Viszla with lots of energy.  I go to the dog park almost everyday and try to take him hiking as often as possible.  He loves to go camping as well.  My two cats are rescues from previous hospitals I have worked at and they spend all of their time on my patio watching birds.

Jami - Veterinary Receptionist

Hey everyone!  My name is Jami.  I am the mother of two amazing girls, ages 7 and 2, and a proud owner of three cats, four bearded dragons, two rats and a fish (I'm surprised I'm not sleeping on the porch yet).  I  have lived in San Diego for 25 years.  Among being an avid animal lover since I can remember, I have been a certified Veterinary Assistant for 8  years.  After working as an assistant for a while, I realized that I loved the client aspect of the field.  I take pride in helping both people and animals.  I love educating clients about the health of their animals, so don’t hesitate to ask a question.  My goal is to receive my Registered Veterinary Technician license. I have experience in emergency medicine as well.  Things I enjoy doing are running around with my little ones, cooking (yes I make a mean steak!),  BBQ's, swimming, going to concerts.  Oh and I love to watch my bearded dragons swim in the bathtub; it's pretty entertaining.  Anywho, make sure you're prepared to see a smile when you see me! And remember, a great veterinarian recommends too much, not too little.  We want the best for your pets to live a long healthy life.
